Preventing Abuse & Neglect

In 1985, the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund was created by the Idaho Legislature to support efforts to counter and avert child abuse across the state. The vision of the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund is that all children have value and should have the chance to develop and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. This is a unique organization that accomplishes its goals via generous funding, private placements, education, support and by building awareness throughout the community of the issues at hand. Other community-based organizations like peeler fundraiser work closely with the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund and share the mission to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The Idaho Children’s Trust Fund believes that children are the most valuable asset in the world. Keeping them safe and allowing them to grow into physically and emotionally healthy young adults is incredibly important. Abuse as a child can have lifelong consequences, so stopping the abuse before it becomes severe is critical to the success of the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund?s goals. To accomplish the goals of preventing abuse and neglect, the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund attempts to shift the focus from threats and insufficiencies to strength within a family and its potential for resiliency.

Disturbing statistics have been collected by the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund. 84% of abused children in the country are abused by one or both of their parents. Research from one particular lawyer Sacramento, shows that preventing child abuse starts with educating the parents to have a happy and health family. This means that the money used to fund the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund is distributed to providers in the state that employ effective prevention strategies into parenting and child care classes and programs. As they help to strengthen and support parents and families, money is distributed to them from the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund.

Parents have a charge and responsibility over their children that no one else but they can understand. Therefore, the funding priority for the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund is not in teaching children how to defend themselves from abusive adults, but rather in putting an end to the physically and emotionally debilitating concept of abuse altogether. Grants to community-based programs are given by the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund to programs that focus on preventing child abuse and neglect. By working together, the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund and the hard-working programs in the Idaho community can come together to achieve their goals with proper funding.
